Before the repetition

Build a bench setup you can maintain.

Bench, rack, grip, and foot positions can differ. Choose positions that feel stable and match any individual instruction you follow.

  1. 01

Set up on the bench so the bar can be unracked and returned to the rack with control.

  2. 02

Choose a grip and foot position that give you a stable base for the variation you are performing.

  3. 03

Set your upper back and wrists in positions you can maintain before moving the bar.

During the movement

Control the bar through the press.

The exact touch point and path depend on the person and variation, so this reference does not prescribe one angle to everyone.

  1. 01

Lower the bar under control through a comfortable path you can maintain.

  2. 02

Pause or reverse the movement according to the bench-press variation you are performing.

  3. 03

Press back to the starting position with control, then reset before the next repetition.
